Ben, What Clubs and Organizations Do You Participate In?

I take part in more social student organizations than I do professional and career clubs. For example, I co-lead SAIS’ LGBT student organization (SAIS Pride), participate in SAIS’ Diversity Council, and attend events by the Global Women in Leadership (GWL) group. All these organizations are fairly active on campus and strive to make the SAIS community more welcoming to students from all backgrounds.

SAIS Pride, in particular, has become more prolific recently due to greater interest from current students and administration. The group generally hosts a mix of social, professional, and academic events, both on and off-campus. We try to take advantage of DC’s LGBT community, as well as the schools’ LGBT alumni network. This semester, we’ve hosted two off-campus Happy Hour networking events, co-sponsored an event with the GWL, and hosted US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, one of the first openly gay State appointees.

Current students and alumni gather at Trade for SAIS Pride Happy Hour.
