Libba, What Are You Looking Forward To This Year?

I am most looking forward to the Conflict Management trip to Beijing in January. A group of 17 Conflict Management and China Studies students will travel to Beijing over the winter break holiday for roughly 12 days to discuss and debate the South China Sea conflict. We will engage with academics and government officials while in Beijing, touching on subjects such as the current state of this issue and how the international community can formulate a more coherent response to South China Sea activity. Following our time in Beijing, each student will write an academic article on a specific aspect of the trip. My topic will focus on how economic pressure creates, or does not create, avenues through which greater negotiation is made possible. I will also focus on whether or not negotiations stemming from economic pressure can produce sustainable, meaningful outcomes. This trip will be full of strong opinions on both sides, and I am excited to be a member of the SAIS delegation.

Thanks for Reading!
