Welcome to SAIS!

This week has been a BIG week at the Washington, DC SAIS Campus.  Our newest students came together as a group for the first time yesterday (Thurs, Aug 27) for New Student Orientation, where they were introduced to all sorts of topics pertaining to the student experience at SAIS.

For more pictures from Orientation, click here.

Today, all our new students, clad in bright blue SAIS t-shirts--along with second-year MAs coming from SAIS Europe and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center--were invited to participate in a day of service.  Students worked on a wide variety of projects, including (but not limited to!): gardening at the National Arboretum Youth Garden, career coaching at the Ethiopian Community Center, maintenance and upkeep at the Salvation Army, preparing food deliveries for a local food bank, and clearing seaweed from the DC tidal basin.

We're also saying "Welcome Back!" to many of our second-year MA students, who will all be here to start classes on Monday.  But some of our second-year students MA students came back a little early to participate in the SAISLeads retreat, which is designed to help students identify their personal leadership style and develop those skills.

We’re moving!

The JHU SAIS DC Admissions Office is staying right where we are, but our blog is moving to a new platform.  We are pleased to announce that after today, we will be posting to our NEW blog at

We’re quite excited about our new platform, and we’ll continue to customize it and make new improvements over the course of the fall semester.  We hope this new platform will be more user-friendly for our readers, with an easier interface for commenting (no more Disqus!), plus there are lots of bells and whistles on our end.
All of our old posts will still be available on our retired blog here, until we finish archiving all of our old posts on the new platform.  So if you’re new to our blog and haven’t had a chance to read through our older posts yet, don’t worry–they’re not going away.

Do you love economics?

Then you should consider the Master of Arts in International Economics and Finance (MIEF) at Johns Hopkins SAIS!

The MIEF is an 11-month, full-time program which prepares students to understand advanced economic theories, develop quantitative skills and analyze current international economic issues.  Students move through the program in a cohort format and focus on how international trade and finance shape economic performance. Further, students develop their own perspectives by interacting one-on-one with world renowned scholars while specializing in either Macroeconomics/International Finance or in International Trade/Development.
Want to learn more?  Then join our MIEF Virtual Information Session on Wednesday, August 19 at 12 pm ET.
