It’s December—Do you know where your application is?

It’s time to check in on your application using our handy step-by-step guide.  By now, you should have completed all the steps listed for Summer-September and September-October.  (If you haven’t completed those steps, you need to get moving!)
So, what should you be focusing on right now?
  • You should be working on finalizing your application essays.  Need some tips?  Check out our recent posts on the analytical essay and the statement of purpose.
  • Complete the online application.  Hopefully, you’ve already started yours so that your references could begin working on your recommendation letters.  (Did you know you can track the status of your recommendation letters via Apply Yourself?  It’s true - you can!)  Start filling out the application now.  It’s a long application, and it may take you more than one sitting.  Don’t rush through it, and make sure all your answers are accurate.
  • Apply for outside fellowships and other financial aid resources.  The time to do this is NOW.  Fellowship funding through SAIS is limited, so you need to be looking for external scholarships and fellowships; their deadlines are coming up soon.  Even if the deadlines aren’t soon, they might require application essays, which require just as much attention and care as your grad school application essays.  If you wait until after you’ve submitted your SAIS application, or until after you’ve received a decision from SAIS, you may find that most (if not all) of the fellowship deadlines have passed.
Thanks for reading!
